Trust me, I know this place well.
It is almost a paradise - so they say. No war, no natural disasters, everything seems to be in perfect harmony... It is, indeed, a Wonderland.
Then, the people on this land seems to have not enough sleep all the time, apparently. 9 out 10 persons that you meet - you can be assured that they will put 'Sleeping' on their list when you ask about their interests or activities they do as their pass-time.
The booming economics has made the people wealthier, the people work even harder to achieve the ultimate. Of cos', one could still find some merry-making party-goers after midnight... That's probably a small percentage of the total population.
Sleeping is definitely one of the best ways to recuperate. 'To rest - is to prepare for a longer journey' - so the wise man (Lu Xun) said. However, I am amazed by the 'passion' (if you could call it) of the people in their 'interest' in SLEEPING. They don't seems to have enough!
The following is a 'dramatised' conversation with a typical person in this City
'So, what are your interests? What do you do during your free time?'
'My interest?... Chatting with friends, MSN, having coffee with friends and... Sleeping.' from the citizen.
I smiled, trying very hard to comprehend... 'Hmm, what about reading... or any other indoor or outdoors activities?' I tried to smile harder.
'Activities? Oh, haha, I'm just too lazy. Really, if I have any extra time, I will prefer to sleep. Haha...'
'Haha! Then, what about weekends?' Still trying my luck...
'Err... Nothing much. Sleep. Sleeping is very good.'
'Are you that busy? Have you not been sleeping well or enough? Do you have long hours of work during the weekdays?' Never give up... hoping that persistent will 'save' the day...
'No. Not really. Haha... I just like to sleep.' Normally, at this point, they will say it with a grin...
'... ...'
Well, I must stress that I not against 'Sleeping'. As mentioned earlier, and scientifically proven, sleeping is a good way to rest... And we, as human beings, will definitely need it. But I will ponder over how would one could place 'Sleeping' as one of their 'Interests'... Culture, Upbringing, Work... Or simply a sign of Sickness in the Society...
If the City is sick, what will be the antidote? Can there be any?
